Commercial HVAC & Electrical Upgrade at Bedford Village Inn in Bedford, NH
Upgrading Comfort, Indoor Air Quality, and System Reliability at One of New Hampshire's Premier Hospitality Destinations
When hospitality properties invest in their infrastructure, they aren't simply replacing equipment—they're investing in guest comfort, operational efficiency, and the long-term success of their business. That's exactly what the team at Bedford Village Inn set out to accomplish with a major HVAC and electrical modernization project completed by Denommee Plumbing, HVAC & Electric.
Located in Bedford, New Hampshire, Bedford Village Inn is known throughout the region for its luxury accommodations, dining experiences, and event spaces. Maintaining a consistently comfortable environment throughout the property is essential for delivering the high-quality guest experience visitors expect.

To support those goals, Bedford Village Inn partnered with Denommee Plumbing, HVAC & Electric to perform a comprehensive HVAC and electrical upgrade that would replace aging equipment, improve indoor air quality, increase energy efficiency, and provide long-term system reliability.
This large-scale project required extensive planning, coordination, and execution across multiple trades. From installing new Mitsubishi heat pump systems and Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs) to upgrading electrical distribution and controls, our team delivered a complete mechanical and electrical solution designed to support the property for years to come.
Understanding the Project Goals
Commercial hospitality properties face unique challenges when it comes to heating, cooling, and ventilation.
Guest comfort must remain consistent throughout the year regardless of outdoor conditions. Individual suites need reliable temperature control. Common areas must maintain comfortable conditions during periods of high occupancy. At the same time, property owners are looking for opportunities to improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs.
The existing HVAC systems serving portions of Bedford Village Inn had reached the point where replacement and modernization offered significant advantages over continued maintenance and repair.
The primary goals of the project included:
- Replacing aging HVAC equipment
- Improving overall system reliability
- Enhancing guest comfort throughout suites and common areas
- Increasing energy efficiency
- Introducing additional fresh air ventilation
- Modernizing electrical infrastructure
- Improving serviceability and maintenance access
- Providing long-term manufacturer-backed equipment warranties
With these objectives established, our team developed a comprehensive installation strategy that addressed both the HVAC and electrical requirements of the project.
Installing a High-Efficiency Mitsubishi HVAC System
At the heart of this project was the installation of a new Mitsubishi commercial heating and cooling system designed to provide efficient, reliable climate control throughout the facility.
Mitsubishi equipment is widely recognized for its performance, energy efficiency, and ability to deliver precise temperature control in commercial applications. The system selected for Bedford Village Inn included a combination of outdoor heat pump units, indoor air handling equipment, and ceiling-mounted systems serving various areas throughout the property.
Outdoor Equipment Installation
The project included the installation of 17 new Mitsubishi outdoor units ranging from ¾-ton systems to 5-ton systems.
These units were strategically located to support guest suites and common areas while maximizing system performance and accessibility.
Because several units were installed on the roof, Denommee coordinated crane operations to safely lift and position equipment. Careful planning ensured the installation process was completed efficiently while protecting the building and surrounding property.
Once positioned, each outdoor unit was connected to its corresponding indoor equipment through newly installed refrigerant piping and communication wiring.

Indoor Air Handling Systems
Inside the building, our HVAC technicians installed 18 new indoor units serving guest suites, hallways, and gathering spaces.
The equipment included Mitsubishi air handlers and ceiling-mounted systems designed to provide quiet operation, consistent comfort, and efficient heating and cooling throughout the property.
Each unit was carefully integrated into existing building conditions, including connections to existing ductwork and drainage systems where appropriate.
The result is a modern HVAC infrastructure capable of delivering improved comfort while reducing energy consumption compared to older equipment.

Enhancing Indoor Air Quality with Energy Recovery Ventilation
While heating and cooling are essential components of guest comfort, indoor air quality has become increasingly important in hospitality facilities.
Modern building owners understand that introducing fresh outdoor air can significantly improve occupant comfort and create a healthier indoor environment. However, bringing in outside air without proper equipment can increase heating and cooling costs.
To address this challenge, the Bedford Village Inn project included the installation of five Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV) systems.
What Is an ERV?
Energy Recovery Ventilators are designed to exchange stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air while recovering energy from the exhausted air stream.
This process helps maintain indoor air quality without placing unnecessary demand on the HVAC system.
ERV systems can help:
- Improve indoor air quality
- Reduce indoor pollutants
- Increase occupant comfort
- Support healthier indoor environments
- Improve overall building efficiency

Strategic ERV Placement
To maximize performance throughout the property, ERV systems were installed in both basement and attic locations.
Three systems were dedicated to serving guest suites, while additional units were integrated into the ventilation strategy for larger gathering spaces.
Fresh air supply and return systems were carefully designed and installed to ensure proper airflow distribution throughout the building.
Following installation, a third-party Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB) contractor verified airflow performance to ensure the system operated as designed.
Reusing Existing Infrastructure Where Practical
One of the most important aspects of any renovation project is identifying opportunities to reuse existing infrastructure when it makes sense. At Bedford Village Inn, our team incorporated existing components where appropriate to reduce disruption and maximize project value. For example, existing hot water supply and return piping was reused and connected to newly installed hydronic coils.
Additionally, existing Ecobee thermostats serving guest suites were retained through the installation of Mitsubishi thermostat interface controls. This approach allowed the property to benefit from new HVAC equipment while maintaining familiar user controls for guests and staff.
Significant Electrical Infrastructure Upgrades
A project of this magnitude requires more than new HVAC equipment. Supporting dozens of new heating, cooling, and ventilation components also requires a robust electrical system capable of delivering reliable power and protection.
Denommee's electrical division performed extensive upgrades throughout the property to support the new mechanical systems.
Power Distribution Improvements
The project began with the safe disconnection and removal of existing electrical connections serving outdated equipment.
Our team then installed new electrical distribution equipment designed to support the upgraded HVAC infrastructure.
Work included:
- Disconnecting and making existing equipment safe
- Repurposing electrical feeds serving removed equipment
- Installing new panel equipment
- Feeding rooftop, basement, outdoor, and interior HVAC systems
- Connecting new air handlers and condensers
- Powering ERV and fresh air systems
- Installing new thermostat wiring and controls
Surge Protection for Long-Term Reliability
Protecting sensitive HVAC equipment was another major project objective.
To help safeguard the new systems against electrical disturbances, surge protection devices were installed at all panels and individual HVAC units.
This additional layer of protection helps reduce the risk of equipment damage and contributes to long-term system reliability.
Code Compliance and Service Accessibility
Throughout the project, electrical installations were completed in accordance with applicable state and local codes.
Additional work included:
- Installing GFCI protection where required
- Constructing equipment mounting stands
- Labeling electrical disconnects and shutoffs
- Improving service accessibility for future maintenance
These upgrades provide a safer and more serviceable infrastructure for building personnel and future technicians.
Commercial Electrical Services
Coordinating Construction and Mechanical Access
One of the unique challenges of retrofit projects is creating access for new equipment while maintaining the integrity and appearance of the building.
Throughout the Bedford Village Inn project, our team performed a variety of construction-related modifications to support HVAC installation and future serviceability.
Work included:
- Creating new service access openings
- Modifying closets for equipment access
- Removing and reinstalling shelving systems
- Framing new openings for service doors
- Installing attic ladder access systems
- Repairing drywall and finishes
- Painting and trim restoration
- Installing roof penetrations for refrigerant piping
These improvements ensure that future maintenance can be performed efficiently while maintaining the property's finished appearance.

System Startup, Commissioning, and Quality Assurance
Installing equipment is only part of a successful commercial HVAC project.
To ensure peak performance, every system underwent a comprehensive startup and commissioning process.
Our team:
- Verified equipment operation
- Tested controls and communication systems
- Confirmed proper airflow and refrigerant performance
